Our story

Some of our bills never got split. So we built Billy.

How two people tired of spreadsheets ended up building a bill-splitting app.

How it started

Splitting fairly took a spreadsheet. And an evening.

One of us would pay, everyone would say "we'll sort it out later" — and later meant an itemised spreadsheet: every dish, who had how much of it, the shared starters, the discount, the service charge. Real work.

In our group, the spreadsheet had a name — Ash's girlfriend, reconstructing receipts line by line while the rest of us made ourselves scarce. When even she started declining the job, bills simply stopped getting split. Some never were.

Never actually made a single spreadsheet himself. See the next card.

Ash's girlfriend

Accountant · head of spreadsheets (retired)

Made every spreadsheet, for years. Billy is her replacement — built to her standard.

This is actually the most useful thing you guys have ever built.

How it's going

We used to dread the bill. Now we race it.

Paying stopped being the bad part of dinner. Snap the receipt, share the link, everyone ticks their own items — the bill is split fairly before the conversations around the table are finished. Nobody stuck with the maths.

That's the whole story so far. No accounts, no payments, no ads.
